The founder of Jayhawk Capital Management, Kent McCarthy, joined by his wife Missy, has contributed to causes close to both their hearts. One of the organizations Kent McCarthy supports is the Brock Wilkerson Cancer Research Fund.
Brock Wilkerson was very active in his community and family. He lost his life at 47 to a fast-moving form of lung cancer. Wilkerson was a non-smoker.
From 2005 to 2015, the Brock Wilkerson Cancer Research Fund’s main activity was the BrockTrot, a road race in which runners raised money for the fund. Wilkerson was an avid runner, competing in many road races, including three marathons after his cancer diagnosis.
Currently, the fund provides support for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where Wilkerson received some of his care. In 10 years’ time, the fund has donated over $340,000 to the Institute. The McCarthys themselves have donated $175,000 to this cause.
